When it comes to hair growth, you might be surprised to know how many women have issues with it. A lot of my friends complain about how long their hair takes to grow, so if you’re in the same boat, don’t fret, you’re not alone! There are a few reasons why your hair might not be growing as fast as you want it to, but there are also some awesome tips to teach you how to make your hair grow faster. If you dye or bleach your hair a lot, you could be stunting its growth. Hair breakage is pretty common, although it doesn’t mean your hair isn’t growing. Rather, it means it’s snapping before it can grow any longer. If you over-process your hair, over-use heat products on it, or aggressively brush it, any of those could be the culprit.
Another reason your hair may not be growing could be nutritional deficiencies. A poor diet that’s lacking in protein, vitamins, minerals and nutrients could be contributing to slow hair growth. A healthy lifestyle and diet will, without a doubt, help you grow strong and luscious hair. And we’ve all heard it before – trimming your hair will actually make it grow faster. And it’s true! Broken hair and split ends need to be chopped off in order to repair the damage.
Remember, what works for someone may not work for everyone, but with some trial and error you can find the one that works perfectly for you and your hair type! From hair-boosting masks filled with proteins and nutrients to the ‘inversion method’ raved about by beauty bloggers, give these hair hacks a chance for amazing results!
(Note: Please seek medical advice before purchasing and ingesting the supplements suggested in this post to ensure they are safe for you and your current state of health.)
1. Up your fish intake
I really love fish, well, most fish anyways! And fish are packed with Omega-3 fatty acids that make your hair grow. A lack of Omega-3s not only slows the growth of your hair, but can also make your strands brittle and dull. If you don’t love the taste of fish, you can take Omega-3 fish oil supplements instead. You may not notice a difference right away, but after a few weeks of consistent Omega-3 intake, your hair will be healthier and longer!
2. Warm oil massage
A great way to stimulate your scalp and moisturize your hair is with a warm oil massage. You can do this by yourself, or even grab a friend and do it for each other! There are plenty of hair oils you can buy in store (we really love Moroccan Oil Hair Treatment), or your can DIY one with coconut, jojoba and olive oils. Warm them up and massage your scalp and hair for 20 minutes. After the massage is done, leave the oil in your hair for an extra 30 minutes and then rinse it out.
3. The inversion method
This method has the nod of approval from many a beauty blogger and vlogger, so it’s definitely worth a try! Here are the directions: every day for seven days massage your scalp with your fingers tips for five minutes (set a timer!). It’s called the inversion method, because you will see the best results if you sit on a chair and flip your hair over so that your head is positioned below your heart. This way, you increase blood flow to your head and stimulate hair follicles. You can even use oil to massage with every few days if you want!
4. Take your biotin
I know quite a few people who take biotin for their hair and it has great results! Also known as vitamin H, biotin helps turn food into energy. It also helps with your metabolism and is a building block for stronger, healthier hair. You can find it in supplement form at any health store, and can also eat foods high in biotin such as almonds, eggs, avocado, and milk.
5. Drink more water
Here it is again, but drinking more water really can help with pretty much everything in your body, including hair growth! How strong your hair is and how fast it grows is linked to how well your body eliminates toxins. The best way to do this is to drink water to flush your system.
6. Potato hair mask
This may sound funny, but potato hair masks are all the rage when it comes to making your hair grow faster. All you need to do is mix the juice of three potatoes with one egg yolk and a table spoon of honey. Potatoes are rich in vitamins A, B and C, which will help fortify your strands. Eggs are amazing for your hair too, so the combination will work wonders!
7. Apple cider vinegar rinse
Mix two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar (we prefer Bragg Organic Raw Apple Cider Vinegar) with one litre of water and rinse your hair after you’ve shampooed and conditioned. Apple cider vinegar boosts your hair growth, gets rid of dirt and is a natural detangler for your hair. It will improve your hair’s shine and make it softer and stronger.
8. Fill up on protein
Having a high-protein diet makes a big difference for your hair. Protein really is a building block for healthy hair, so make sure you’re adding lots of it to your diet! Rich protein foods include salmon, chicken, tofu, eggs yogurt, nuts, the list goes on!
9. Don’t wash every day
If you don’t have to, don’t wash your hair every day as the oils your scalp produces are essential for healthy hair and hair growth.
10. Egg mask
Eggs are so great for your hair. They contain essential vitamins, minerals and proteins that condition the hair and promote hair growth. All you need is an egg and a tablespoon of olive oil. Mix them together and spread the combination all over your scalp and hair. Let it sit for 15 to 20 minutes, rinse, and shampoo.
If your hair needs a healthy boost, try a few of these tips out for size! Your hair will be stronger, look smoother, and of course, grow faster!
